Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a public speaking event organizer. She is the co-founder of Feminist Frequency a website that offers videos and blog posts that analyze gender representations in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist media critic from Canada, as well as a blogger. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit educational website which analyzes how females are represented in the popular media narratives. She's dedicated to breaking down stereotypes of women and the way they are depicted in pop culture. Additionally, she is working to increase awareness about online harassment directed at females and other minorities of society. Holding a master's degree in social and political thought from York University Sarkeesian is also a much sought-after public speaking engagement and has given speech at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She was a fan of the gender issue and feminist movements since a young age. As of 2009, as she was still enrolled at the university level, she launched the website Feminist Frequency. The woman with ambitions to launch a web program that examined gender representations in video games. She found herself the target of a harassment online campaign. The attack did be a deterrent, but it only bolstered her determination to be a feminist media critic. In recognition of the many achievements she's made for feminism, she is an award winner. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded numerous prizes and founded Feminist Frequency a nonprofit educational group that investigates the way women are represented in popular cultural narratives.
